My graduation project for my BA, this film focuses on the beauty and cultural aspects of the Saree, a garment worn in a variety of forms throughout India. After multiple explorations during development, I finally settled on the idea of teaching my friend Rebecca how to wear a saree. Coming from a different culture, it was fun to not only explain to her the mechanism of draping this beautiful garment, but was also culturally enriching to learn and depict the history of how the saree came to be.
For research purposes, I visited a variety of stores in Wembley, where I was able to record a few interviews with some Saree shop owners. I also requested interviews from my aunts, parents and cousins, to develop an understanding of the importance of the saree in their lives and their views about it. This film underwent many revisions to finally culminate into the version that you see today.
I realised my potential for creating a film within a short space of time, whilst improving my abilities in time management, animation and communication.
